The city of Zurich, an international banking and financial center, is located at the extreme north of Lake Zurich in the north of Switzerland. Its pre-medieval history is reflected in the picturesque alleys of the Altstadt, the old town, which is spread over both banks of the Limmat. Augustinergasse is a picturesque street with colorful buildings known for the carved windows of the old merchant houses. The Bahnhofsstrasse is the shopping street, the 9th-century Fraumünster church preserves the colorful stained glass windows by Marc Chagall in the 1970s, while the Grossmünster tower offers a view of the city, the lake and the Alps. The Cabaret Voltaire, a still active café, in 1916 the Dadaist artistic movement was born.
